Senior Credential

The senior credential. Proof you lead internal control.

When CICP follows your name, employers, auditors, and boards read you as the senior authority on internal control. The designation recognizes the extensive skills and knowledge required to lead the function, and it's earned on the strength of your documented record.

  • You lead an internal-controls, audit, or compliance function and want a credential that matches your scope.
  • You hold CICS and have built the eight years of experience the upgrade path calls for.
  • You've spent twelve or more years designing and assessing controls and want formal recognition for that record.
  • You're preparing for a leadership seat where boards and executives expect senior credentials.

What you get

What the CICP designation delivers

The CICP designation

Senior-level letters after your name that employers, auditors, and boards read as proof you're qualified to lead the internal-controls function.

A substantiated record

Your certification rests on documented experience, a testimonial letter from a contemporary, and supporting evidence of skill proficiency. It carries weight because it was earned that way.

Certificate and digital badge

Once certified, you receive your certificate and a digital badge you can display wherever your professional standing matters.

The direct path from CICS

If you hold CICS, you upgrade straight to the senior credential. Your specialist certification plus eight years of experience qualifies you to apply.

Demonstrated breadth

CICP requires proficiency in internal controls plus at least five of seven job dimensions, so the designation speaks to breadth as well as depth.

A maintained credential

CICP stays current through a defined three-year renewal cycle, the same maintenance schedule as CICS. Full requirements live on the renewal page.

How it works

How you earn the designation

Confirm your eligibility

Five pathways qualify you, from CICS plus eight years of experience to twelve years of control design and assessment work. Degree-based routes are available too. If you're unsure which fits, contact the Institute before you apply.

Apply and pay online

Complete payment online, then download the application form. Fill in the required fields, sign the Code of Conduct Affirmation, and email it back to the Institute.

Substantiate your experience

Submit a testimonial letter from a contemporary attesting to your experience, along with supporting evidence of your skill proficiency. Once certified, your certificate and digital badge follow.

The designation that settles the seniority question

Plenty of people do senior internal-control work. The CICP designation makes yours visible. When a hiring executive, an external auditor, or a board member sees those four letters, your judgment arrives pre-vouched: years of documented experience, a testimonial from a peer who watched you do the work, and evidence reviewed by the Institute. You walk in as the senior authority, and the room knows it before you say a word.
